Apple is Set to Start Manufacturing its iPhones in India

Apple is set to start manufacturing its iPhones in India, by May/June this Year.

The Indian state of Karnataka has welcomed a proposal from Apple to begin initial manufacturing operations in the state.

The governoment of Karnataka noted that “Apple’s intentions to manufacture in Bengaluru will foster cutting edge technology ecosystem and supply chain development in the state, which are critical for India to compete globally,” in a televised interview with CNBC-TV 18.

In December, Apple partnered with Taiwanese manufacturing company Wistron to begin assembling iPhones and other Apple products at Peenya on the outskirts of Bangalore, Karnataka.

As at January 25, Apple met with officials of the state to discuss on tax concessions.

The Indian government has been looking to entice overseas manufaturers ans has been offering various benefits to for them to setup manufacturing plants in India as such efforts help in creation of new jobs and foster the development of cities and states. However, Apple’s earlier demands were unprecedented.

Appel CEO, Tim Cook, said India is “a great place to be,” emphasizing that Apple has made its all-time record revenue in the country.
